Choosing a Laptop
Size-
The screen size is a major factor in buying your laptop. The smaller sized laptop with a 10-12 inch screen are extremely portable and light and can be used for travelling frequently. This screen size will be too small for many people though.
A 13 to 14 inch laptop is an ideal size for many people as it is very portable and can be used easily as well. This size is very popular among buyers due its balance in portability and convenience.
15 inch laptops are the most popular laptops because most of the budget laptops come in this category. These laptops are usually not very portable due to their weight.
17 inch laptops can be used as a desktop replacement as it can have a better processor fit inside and powerful graphics, however these are extremely heavy to carry around.

Brand-
If you have a preferred brand then it is best to go with what you like. If your favourite brand is not Apple, you will most likely purchase a laptop with the Windows operating system.
Operating System-
There are many operating systems to choose from but the most popular are windows, Apple OSx and Google chrome OS.
Windows is the most widely used operating system in the world as it allows you to choose between cheap or expensive and the brand that you prefer to buy from. The new windows 8 operating system (show below in the middle) has a tile based design and has a wide array of touch compatible applications.
Apple OSx ( shown on the right) offers an easy to use operating system and if you have had an iPhone there is a layout similar to iOS in the launchpad. Apple doesn't offer as many software options as windows but they're operating systems are very good for production and work use.
Google Chrome OS is generally for surfing the web and emailing and social networking. The chrome OS cant do much other than that but the laptops with chrome OS are generally quite cheap compared to others.
